Spots Available

  • Join Leica Store Miami and Leica Camera for a photographic adventure through the White Mountains of New Hampshire. Over the course of this four day trip, you will have the opportunity to photograph winding creeks, pristine lakes, cascading waterfalls, stunning landscapes and more amidst the beauty of New England Fall Foliage colors. This trip will be a great opportunity to get gallery quality images with the amazing Leica S, SL and M Systems, while we take you from one incredible shooting location to the next.

Leica Experts David Farkas and Peter Dooling from Leica Store Miami, along with S-System Specialist John Kreidler from Leica Camera will be on hand to give assistance and advice, as well as provide loaner Leica cameras and lenses. We’ll share our favorite tips and tricks to help you get the most out of this exceptional gear.

While other cameras are certainly allowed on this trip, the focus is on Leica camera systems and learning how to use them to their full potential. Current owners as well as those wanting to try Leica gear out for a week of real shooting are encouraged to attend.

    Why this trip is different

This is not a workshop where you spend most of your daylight shooting hours sitting in a classroom. Why travel to some of the most beautiful and picturesque locations just to be stuck indoors? Instead, we will focus on making the most of each and every day to capture as many great photo opportunities as we can.

To balance out all this shooting and help you get the most out of your images, we will spend one afternoon showing you the secrets of processing Leica DNG files in Adobe Lightroom. Each participant will also receive one-on-one Lightroom instruction with his or her own images to see how much of a difference good post-processing technique can make in your photography.

    What to Expect

This is primarily a photography trip. We will be shooting some days from before sunrise until after sunset. We will be covering a fair amount of ground each day by minivan, with many stops along the way to get out, explore and shoot. At each destination, there will be plenty of time to set up your tripod, compose your shots and get in some quality photography. The goal isn’t to rush off to the next stop, but rather take full advantage of each photo opportunity as it presents itself. In this regard, the schedule will be somewhat flexible.

All of the photo locations that we have scouted will require no more than 1/3 of a mile of easy hiking to get to. Most are right off the side of the road. The idea is that we’d rather spend more time shooting and less time getting to where we want to go.

If you want to extend your adventure, join us on our exciting excursion to the Maine Coast, which begins on October 16th.

Our mode of transport will be a caravan of minivans, rather than by tour bus. This will give us much more flexibility to traverse back roads and stop as we need to. And with just four or five passengers max per van we’ll have plenty of room for photo gear.

  • What past participants had to say about this trip

"I would absolutely recommend the Fall Foliage workshop with the guys from Leica Store Miami. First of all, super nice people. The guys from Leica and Leica Store Miami as well as all the participants were amazing. Second, the instruction. John, David and Josh were so knowledgeable with all the Leica equipment. They always teach me something i didn't know previously. Third the location, which was spectacular. So much so I will be returning in 2017."

    - Mark N, Texas

“In October, 2011 I had the pleasure of attending a fall foliage workshop organized by David Farkas and Leica. When David first inquired as to whether I would be interested in participating my reaction was lukewarm. I’ve done most of my traveling with family and friends and have never been into the ‘group tour’ kind of thing. Nor did I think I was likely to learn anything of consequence that would improve my photography. Despite my reservations David persuaded me to come along. I’m very glad I did.

My primary motivation for participating in this workshop was the opportunity to shoot a different type of landscape than I have available to me in Florida. Mountains, lakes, streams, waterfalls and the beauty of leaves changing color either don’t exist or are quite difficult to find in this neck of the woods.

With the help of one of our workshop participants who lives in that region David scouted the area before the trip and selected prime shooting locations. I got more and better shots than I had hoped.

On the education front, I was introduced to the use of square glass graduated neutral density and polarizing filters. I’d used screw in filters on my 35mm kit but not all that frequently. When David showed the group the difference that they made pretty much everyone in the group bought one on the spot.

The accommodations and food were top notch and the other participants were a pleasure to get to know and spend time with. All in all the trip was a resounding success. I’d recommend it without reservation to all.”

    - David K, Florida

“As an avid amateur photographer, I have participated in several multi-day photo workshops over the years. I have found that photo workshops are a great way to broaden knowledge, improve skills, enlighten vision, and meet some great people and photographers. So when David Farkas (Leica Store Miami) announced a photo adventure to New Hampshire and Vermont to photograph fall foliage, I couldn’t wait to sign up. I am glad I did as it far exceed expectations. David’s attention to detail in planning and scheduling ensured first rate accommodations and meals along with a maximum amount of time in the field photographing beautiful scenery. David and his staff were eager to provide the right amount coaching, suggestions, tips, and encouragement for the different skill levels of photographers in the group. Oh, a bonus was that David brought along a lot of Leica cameras and lenses for the group to try out and use to their hearts content.”

    - Mark G, Tennessee

"The New England trip in 2011 was incredible and provided me memories, friendships, learning, and photos I will always cherish. It was my first time attending an organized photo trip, so I was happily pleased to discover how much one can learn from fellow photographers on such a trip, as well as from an expert such as David Farkas. The lodging, food, and transportation were excellent, but having someone previously scout out where to go and when allowed me to shoot three times as many fantastic locations than if I were on my own.

I cannot guarantee you will remain in contact with as many photographers on the trip as I have; five. One of whom became and is my business partner in printing art photographs.

I cannot promise you will capture an image that ever gets purchased as I did; in twenty states and 14 countries.

But I can assure you that you will have an amazing time thanks to David, Josh, and your fellow photographers, and you will advance your capabilities and your command of your Leica S as never before."

    - Jack M, Wisconsin

"Imagine the autumnal crisp chill of a New England morning, before sunrise, as you gaze across a still pond with a church steeple faintly emerging through the mist and fog. Your camera is mounted on the tripod. You check and re-check the settings. Finger tips freezing, hat pulled over your ears—not knowing what image will appear. The light is stealthy, changing, brighter in the east now, shafting silver and pewter through the trees to your left.

Along the far bank an outcropping of trees reveals golds and reds and greens. You’re watching—in the moment now---and just as the colors sharpen with intensity and reflect in the pond, the shutter clicks, the moment is yours!

The Fall Foliage Workshop offers this kind of experience, shared with a small group of like-minded photographers, and led by expert guides that have scouted the locations in advance. At each stop, you find your own images or you can shadow one of the guides and pick up invaluable tips. I did both in the 2015 Workshop. It was a grand time of camaraderie, learning, local cuisine and customs, and breathtaking photo ops!!"
