The work embraces both the fixed - concrete, cobblestone, mortar and glass - and as well as the transitory - light, shadow, wind, and most of all, the dance of pedestrians. Powell belongs to the tradition of the flâneur and his work takes inspiration from Frank O’Hara, William Stieg, Joel Meyerowitz, Jacob Lawrence, and Jane Jacobs. Made in New York City between 2009 to 2026, the sixteen images selected by curator Tim Barber, take us towards moments rather than landmarks. We will delve into the diverse practices encompassed by the genre of street photography, with a particular emphasis on the physicality, intentionality, poetry, and pleasure of the practice.\u003cbr\u003e\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003c\/li\u003e\n\u003cli id=\"tab2\"\u003e\n\u003cp\u003e\u003ca href=\"https:\/\/www.guspowell.com\/\" rel=\"noopener\" target=\"_blank\"\u003eGus Powell\u003c\/a\u003e was born in New York City in 1974 and attended Oberlin College where he majored in comparative religion. In 2003 he was selected to be in PDNs 30 under 30 issue and also published his first monograph, \u003cem\u003e\u003ca href=\"https:\/\/www.guspowell.com\/the-company-of-strangers\" rel=\"noopener\" target=\"_blank\"\u003eThe Company of Strangers\u003c\/a\u003e\u003c\/em\u003e (J\u0026amp;L Books). His work has been exhibited internationally, including a solo show at The Museum of The City of New York and group exhibitions at The Art Institute of Chicago, Museum of Fine Arts Houston and FOAM, NL.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eHis photographs have been published in Aperture, Harpers, Vogue, M le mag – Le Monde, Wired, Fortune, W, and The New Yorker. He is a member of the international street photographers’ collective UP and is on the faculty of the MFA Photography, Video and Related Media Department at the School of Visual Arts, NY.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eHis work is included in the books Bystander: A World History of Street Photography and Street Photography Now. Powell’s second monograph, titled \u003cem\u003e\u003ca href=\"https:\/\/www.guspowell.com\/the-lonely-ones-3\" rel=\"noopener\" target=\"_blank\"\u003eThe Lonely Ones\u003c\/a\u003e\u003c\/em\u003e (J\u0026amp;L Books, 2015) was celebrated as one of the best photography books of the year, and was reprinted as a trilingual edition in 2017. His third monograph, \u003cem\u003e\u003ca href=\"https:\/\/www.guspowell.com\/familycartrouble\" rel=\"noopener\" target=\"_blank\"\u003eFAMILY CAR TROUBLE\u003c\/a\u003e\u003c\/em\u003e (TBW Books, 2019) has become a new classic of the Automotive Parenting Bereavement genre.
