Karli Evans is a photographer and director based in the jungle of Miami, FL.
Energized by urban spaces and local subculture, Karli uses visual storytelling and environment to capture people, document creative process, and explore identity expression. Her recent projects include casting plus photographing an LGBTQ+ travel campaign for Greater Miami, and her images have been featured by Paper Magazine, New York Magazine, GQ and Miami New Times. Her short films have been selected to screen at New York City Independent Film Festival, Berlin Feminist Film Festival, and Borscht Film Festival locally. Karli is a double alumna of the University of Miami, with an MFA in Photography and BS in Visual Journalism.
"I use photography to explore the relationship between perception and reality, identity and expression, location and self. Making portraits is both a documentary and collaborative practice that helps me construct a new visual language with my subject — capturing not just how someone appears, but how they want to be seen.
Based in Miami, FL, I found home within a local collective of emerging artists and queer performers who are challenging the status quo surrounding gender ideals, sexuality and vulnerability. I’m interested in shedding light on this contemporary queer experience — particularly how individuals navigate the intersection of identity, place, society and fantasy. My work is an exploration of these inner and outer worlds, using portraiture to simultaneously re-imagine new realities, while cataloguing a visual diary of queer thought and expression."
