More Than a Photograph of a Face: A Study of Portraiture with Omar Cruz | Aug. 28 - 30, 2020
Join Leica Store Miami and renowned portrait photographer Omar Cruz for an immersive, online dive into what makes a portrait truly unique, and why it is so much more than simply a photograph of a face.
*This workshop will also be offered in Spanish from September 4-6.
With over three decades of experience shooting some of the most recognized faces in the world, Omar Cruz still approaches each of his photographs with the same curiosity and passion. With each portrait, he gifts immortality to his subjects by capturing their essence in a single frame. His love affair with shadows and the unseen draws the viewer in to question what lies just beyond the frame, and what story is waiting there to be told.
Designed as an intimate and interactive experience between Cruz and the participants, this online photography workshop will examine the elements of portrait photography as an intuitive exploration and conversation about how to craft a captivating portrait.
The intensive workshop will explore the elements of composing a portrait covering topics ranging from technical details, to methodology of the great masters, to training your eye to see beyond what is expected. Participants will also learn Cruz’s personal methods and advice on everything from directing your subject, to his favorite approach to lighting. The workshop will culminate with a remote live portrait session in Cruz’s personal studio where participants will be able to witness the implementation of everything learned in the workshop, and will gain invaluable insight by engaging with Cruz during the shoot via a live Q&A. Cruz will then edit his images from shoot to final photos, giving never-before-seen access into his process for developing a signature portrait.
