  The Vario-Elmar-R 80-200mm first started production in 1996.  The optical system comprises of 12 elements in 8 groups.  The second and third groups are moved independently of each other to change the focal length, one linearly and the other on a cam track.  The front group only moves for focusing.  Focus and zooming are controlled by separate rubber armored rings.  The mount is non-rotating, so a polarizing filter can be used without restriction.

  This medium-tele zoom would be a great addition to any outdoor lover or travel photographer.  Mount the 80-200mm lens on the Leica R-system or the new Leica M-system with the appropriate adapter. There are some small visible marks on the lens. The rubberized focusing and zoom rings are lightly faded.  The focusing ring moves very smoothly with nice drag. The aperture ring moves freely with positive detents. The zoom ring moves smooth with good tension.  The glass is clear and free of haze, fungus and dust, but the coating has some small imperfections. Overall, this lens is in excellent condition.
