** Camera not included - Illustration purpose only ** E-Clypse MAG
Our E-Clypse MAGs have been created specifically for the Leica user after rigorous design and testing by us – they are not generic eyecup magnifiers that we have re-branded: the nuances of rangefinder photography bring together the individuality of the Leica photographer and the special requirements of the rangefinder, and our E-Clypse MAGs aid this synthesis.
E-Clypse MAGs enhance the rangefinder style of photography by preventing stray light from entering the eye when looking through the viewfinder. Stray light is not only a distraction but reduces the contrast essential to the photographer during composition. The other eye remains free to take in the peripheral view and activity.
In addition, high-quality multi-element, multicoated optics enlarge or reduce the viewfinder image (depending on the model). The optics housing is precision made from brass and high-grade black-anodized 6061 aluminum alloy, and is threaded to accept Leica diopter lenses. The eyecup is made of silicon rubber, which is tough, unaffected by most substances, resistant to permanent deformation, and has a very long life.
E-Clypse MAGs are attached to your camera using the viewfinder thread, in exactly the same way as the viewfinder magnifier and diopter lenses manufactured by Leica itself. E-Clypse MAGs fit Leica M cameras with an M12 × 0.5 viewfinder thread (all models from the Leica M (Typ 240) back to the Leica M3).
E-Clypse MAG 0.85x reduces the size of the viewfinder image by 15%, and has either a 34 mm or 42 mm diameter circular silicon rubber eyecup. The reduced 85% view provided by E-Clypse MAG 0.85x makes the wider frame lines easier to see (appreciated by spectacle wearers), and allows the camera to be held further from your eye (for those not wearing spectacles).
E-Clypse MAG 0.85x works equally well whether the camera is held in portrait or landscape orientation. You can keep E-Clypse EyeCup Mag 0.85x on your camera permanently – its robust design and compact shape prevent it from becoming accidentally detached or being a hindrance when your Leica M is not being used, for example when stored in your camera bag.
Engineering E-Clypse MAG
At the heart of the E-Clypse MAG system is an outer 6061 aluminum alloy ring that supports the silicon rubber eyecup. The eyecup is available in two diameters, 34 mm or 42 mm. Mounted inside this ring is the lens housing, constructed from brass. As well as enclosing the lens elements, this housing has precision brass threads that attach the E-Clypse MAG to the camera viewfinder.
