  • Join Leica Store Miami for an incredible photography trip to the Dolomites in Italy, a region renowned for its dramatic mountain landscapes and picturesque alpine villages.

This adventure will take us to Ortisei, a charming town nestled in Selva di Val Gardena, Alpe di Siusi, Europe's largest high-altitude alpine meadow, Cortina d'Ampezzo, known as the "Queen of the Dolomites" and more. We'll also spend an evening in one of the regions famous mountain lodges, Rifugio Lagazuoi, a high-altitude refuge offering some of the most breathtaking panoramic views in the Dolomites. Accessible via a cable car, this location is perfect for capturing the sunrise with the sun casting a golden glow over the rugged mountain peaks and valleys.

This trip is filled with stunning landscapes, iconic Tyrolean architecture and delicious cuisine, ensuring an unforgettable experience in the Dolomites.

Leica experts Peter Dooling and David Farkas, along with photographic location experts and guides Marcus McAdam and Harry Martin, will be on hand to give assistance and advice as you photograph these iconic landscapes.

While other cameras are certainly allowed on this trip, the focus is on Leica camera systems and learning how to use them to their full potential. Current owners as well as those wanting to try Leica gear out for a week of real shooting are encouraged to attend. We’ll share our favorite tips and tricks so you can get the most out of this exceptional gear.

    Why this trip is different

This is not a workshop where you spend most of your daylight shooting hours sitting in a classroom. Why travel to some of the most beautiful and picturesque locations just to be stuck indoors? Instead, we will focus on making the most of each and every day to capture as many great photo opportunities as we can. Weather permitting, we will shoot as many sunrises and sunsets as we can. We will be covering a fair amount of ground each day with many stops along the way to get out, explore and shoot.

    What to Expect

    • Capture images of epic mountainous landscapes of the Dolomites as we visit Selva di Val Gardena, Alpe di Siusi, Cortina d'Ampezzo and more.
    • Spend one evening in the high mountain lodge, Rifugio Lagazuoi, and photograph the spectacular sunset among the peaks.
    • Chase the light and pack in as much photography as we can.
    • Enjoy the camaraderie of like-minded Leica enthusiasts in a small group setting.
    • Receive in-field photography instruction, as well as 1-on-1 post-processing and critique sessions during downtime.

    Fitness & health

Because of the altitude and hiking involved in this trip, it is essential that you are actively fit and healthy. Whilst there are no long hikes or big mileage, expect most walking to be around 15-20 minutes in length (but up to 1/1.5 hours for one location), the altitude makes everything difficult. All hiking will be done at a relaxed pace, as we will have plenty of time to get to our locations.

    Safety

Most locations we visit involve few difficulties to those with even low levels of fitness. Where walking over uneven terrain, slippery rocks or when standing near cliff edges is required, you will be properly briefed on the potential hazards.

    Travel Insurance (required)

It is a requirement of booking that guests provide evidence of personal travel insurance to cover cancellation and curtailment, medical and emergency expenses (including repatriation), personal accident, injury and death in addition to loss of/damage to luggage and possessions, personal possessions and flight cancellations/delays.

    Climate

Our guides love September to run their Dolomites trips as the climate is ideal for hiking. Having said this, due to the varying altitudes we will be at, there will be a wide range of temperatures to endure. During the daytime at lower levels, it will be pleasantly warm in the sunshine. At altitude early in the mornings it may be around freezing point, with snow possible.

    Getting there

We recommend flying in and out of Venice Marco Polo Airport (VCE). We'll meet at 11:00am on September 25th at or near the airport- location TBD, load the vans and head north. The workshop will end on October 2nd, but please book your departing flights after 3:00pm because it will take some time to get back to VCE from Cortina. Of course, you're welcome to extend your stay to explore Venice or perhaps travel elsewhere in Italy.
