• The lens opened entirely new possibilities with a standard lens. Its ability to focus down to a reproduction ration of 1:2 made it far more versatile than a normal 50mm. It is of true macro construction in that it is computed to give its optimum performance in the close-up range, but it still matches other R-lenses at infinity if it is stopped down to f/5.6.

  The lens has six elements with one cemented pair. The lens is deeply recessed so the mount forms the lens hood. An additional lens hood is required to secure the Series VIII filters.

  The lens can also be used with an adapter to provide the focusing range down to 1:1 reproduction. The adapter provides full automatic diaphragm coupling and an interlock system ensures that it is coupled in the correct manner (the lens has first to be set to f/22).

  The lens was improved in 1980 by a redesign of the mount. The lens now accepts E55 filters. The lens can be retrofitted with electronics for Leica R8.

The work performed was to clean, lubricate, and adjust all parts for proper working order.
