  The Vario-Elmar-R 80-200mm first started production in 1996.  The optical system comprises 12 elements in 8 groups.  The second and third groups are moved independently of each other to change the focal length, one linearly and the other on a cam track.  The front group only moves to focus.  Focus and zooming are controlled by separate rubber-armed rings.  The mount is non-rotating, so a polarizing filter can be used without restriction.

  This medium-tele zoom would be a great addition to any outdoor lover or travel photographer.  Mount the 80-200mm lens on the Leica R-system or the new Leica M-system with the appropriate adapter. The lens is clean with signs of normal use. The rubberized focusing and zoom rings are lightly faded.  The focusing ring moves very smoothly with nice drag. The aperture ring moves freely with positive detents. The zoom ring moves smoothly with good tension.

  Service has been completed recently by DAG Camera. The work performed was to clean, lubricate, and adjust all parts for proper working order. A note from the repair states, "The front element has scratches inside from a previous repair, rear element has minor seperation. Optically, the lens is good."
