• This Summicron lens is of telephoto construction, resulting in a very short mount. When it first appeared, it set the trend for all later Leica R-lenses in being compact and having a built-in, extendible lens hood. It is of five element construction, with four of them in front of the diaphragm, the middle two forming a very thick cemented pair. The lens originally took Series VII filters but the fitting was changed to E55 in 1978. The 3-Cam version was added for the R3.

The focusing ring moves very smoothly with nice drag. The aperture ring moves freely with positive detents. The glass front element is clean. clear and scratch free. Service on this lens has been performed recently by DAG Camera. The work completed was to clean, lubricate, and adjust all parts for proper working order. Overall, this lens is in excellent working condition.
