In racing, you can only control so much. Each race team has multiple mechanics, engineers, coaches, spotters, and drivers, but they can't control one of the biggest concerns for every team: the weather. In endurance racing, drivers can experience a plethora of racing conditions, thus affecting strategy. The difference between a race win or loss often comes down to one extra pit stop. You can take a chance and stay out on slicks, hoping the rain doesn't come, or you can bet that it will, and make the pit stop to change the tires suitable for rain.
These photos are from the 24 Hours of Daytona and the 12 Hours of Sebring. Devon captures the drama of the unknown, and the exhaustive planning that goes into an endurance race. She is highlighting high-running emotions in an otherwise emotionless, male-dominated world. The team may prefer dry conditions, but I found that the rain accentuated the raw beauty of automotive endurance racing.
