Tableau Photography
Ashley Sebok gave a presentation on Tableau Photography.
Says Sebok, "A tableau vivant is a French phrase meaning “living picture.” Traditionally we use photographs to purely document a time or event. With the tableau image we can carefully create our own narrative to express ideas, themes, and even shed light to issues within or amongst us all. With this genre of photography, the camera is specific to the work. The artist is consciously using the medium to express the concept. Predetermined framing, composition, props, and actors allow for these structured scenes. Through the works of Carrie Mae Weems, Phillip Lorca DiCorcia, and a few selections of my own we will explore this provocative yet informative genre."
