Unfinished Business
I love watching the rhythm of life—people going about their business, working, walking, dreaming, loving, alone in their thoughts, and immune from the outside world. I love that special moment when they are in harmony with their surroundings—pure, naked, unaware and honest. Occasionally my photographs may be absent of people, but hopefully there is still a personal presence to them, as if somebody was once there but has moved on. For me, it's the same.
Photographs are alive—magnetic, passionate, and soulful. They speak softly to me in low whispering voices— telling me a story, or revealing a deep unconscious thought, while showing me something new and previously unseen. Never silent, photographs have rhythm, and movement—they are impulsive, personal, and spontaneous.
A scene unfolds, in a split-second it is frozen—captured, and then poof, it is gone, forever—never to be seen again.
I don't have any preconceived plan of what I wish to photograph. I shoot randomly—invisibly moving through places, watching, waiting, until the “photograph” appears before me. If I consciously look for something specific, it will never happen—I will never see it. However, in my wanderings, breathing, watching, and waiting, opportunities appear before me. My photographs are as much about me as what I am seeing. My projects have no beginning and no end. It is all unfinished business.
I would like to express my gratitude to Constantine Manos, for his encouragement on this project.
