William Snyder

William Snyder discussed his experience with The Who and talked about his Pulitzer Prize winning career in photojournalism.

To say that William Snyder is a serious photojournalist/editor is something of an understatement. The four-time Pulitzer Prize-winner has covered subjects ranging from AIDS orphans in Romania to Olympic Games to a coup attempt in the former Soviet Union.

But what really gets this decorated photographer talking is when the topic turns to his rock 'n' roll experiences with The Who.

As a young fan sitting in the cheap seats, William Snyder first photographed The Who in concert back in 1976. Back then he had no idea that less than 25 years later he would be photographing them again as a member of their “family.”

So, how does a budding young photographer go from shooting his favorite band from the cheap seats to recording some of the biggest stories in the world and then become a ‘family member’ of one of the greatest rock bands in history?

“It's every rock 'n roll fan's dream. To hang out backstage with their favorite band. To walk around on the same stage with them. To have them talk about you from the stage. To be on the plane with them. To tour with them across the country. To live their ‘Almost Famous’ dream with their favorite rock'n'roll band.”

The book, Join Together (With The Band), is a museum quality, collectable hardcover coffee table book that captures The Who's explosive stage shows as well as quiet moments off-stage in many never-before-seen photographs spanning 1980 through 2017. The exclusive photographs in this book were taken by William Snyder who has been the band's official photographer of more than seventeen years. The foreword is by Pearl Jam frontman Eddie Vedder. The book is bolstered by the full blessing and support of Pete Townshend and Roger Daltrey.

Join Together is an over-sized book measuring 12 x 12 x 1.0 inches with approximately 180 pages. 50 percent of the book profits go to The Who's charity, Teen Cancer America.
