After landing at the toe of Knik Glacier in the mighty Cessna 206 Stationair, I spotted a massive iceberg that had calved from the glacier. Guiding the pilot across the frozen lake, I positioned the aircraft at just the right angle—framing it perfectly between the iceberg’s towering peaks. With the composition set, a large wireless flash brought the scene to life, illuminating the aircraft against the icy expanse.

Evan Lewis is a professional photographer currently residing in Sarasota, Florida. Educated at the Ringling College of Art & Design, he earned his Bachelor’s degree in Fine Arts with a concentration in photography in 2020.
Evan’s work is deeply influenced by his fascination with the machine world. His photographs often explore the interplay between transportation, mechanical design, and natural beauty. Some of Evan’s most notable photographic techniques include the use of long exposures, artificial lighting, and multi-layer post-processing methods that harmonize the subject with its environment.
Among the many places Evan travels to for his images, Alaska holds the most significance. Recently, he completed a body of work titled Ascending Alaska, which compiles four years and seven visits to the magnificent state into one comprehensive series. The imagery in this collection captures the emotional connection between humanity and the environment through unique methods of transport such as small airplanes and powerful automobiles.
