Join us on Friday, December 4th as we welcome photographer Gus Powell to Leica Store Miami for a gallery opening to celebrate the opening of his exhibition SIXTEEN CORNERS.
Gus Powell’s SIXTEEN CORNERS is a portrait of a city through its intersections and convergences. The work embraces both the fixed - concrete, cobblestone, mortar and glass - and as well as the transitory - light, shadow, wind, and most of all, the dance of pedestrians. Powell belongs to the tradition of the flâneur and his work takes inspiration from Frank O’Hara, William Stieg, Joel Meyerowitz, Jacob Lawrence, and Jane Jacobs. Made in New York City between 2009 to 2026, the sixteen images selected by curator Tim Barber, take us towards moments rather than landmarks. Powell uses photography to take an improvised rendezvous of strangers and fix it into a monument of momentum.
